Lois A. Papenberg | Obituary

Lois Ann Papenberg (nee Kohler), 83, of Hecker, died Dec. 25, 2023 at the de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis. She was born on Aug. 25, 1940 to the late Edward and Helen Kohler (nee Toenjes).

Although she spent most of her life living in Hecker, Lois was a Waterloo girl. She attended Ss. Peter &Paul Catholic Grade School and High School. Lois was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church in Hecker where she was active in the Altar Sodality (past president) and the adult choir.

Her greatest joy was being a Gibault Hawk mom to her five children and a Gibault Hawk, Waterloo Bulldog and Immaculate Conception Crusader grandma to her eight grandchildren. Many were fortunate to call her aunt, godmother, cousin and friend. A few were truly blessed to call her wife, mom, and grandma. Lois was a source of joy to all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years Dale G. Papenberg; son Todd, his wife Kim and their children Chasity (Brandon) Harrison and Josh; son Brad, his wife Claudia and their children Caralyn and Kelly; son Jay, his wife Jami and their children Claire and Caleb; daughter Jill and her finance Tim Huebner; son Mark, his wife Jayci and their children Jax and Nash; brothers Franklin Kohler and Richard (Dorothy) Kohler; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Lois is preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Victor and Elizabeth Papenberg; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jane (Carl) French; sisters-in-law Helen Kohler and Phyllis Kohler; a niece Kathy Baxmeyer and her son Kaden.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Dec. 27, 2023 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo and 8:30-10 a.m. Dec. 28 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Hecker.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated following visitation at the church with Father Von Deeke officiating.

Interment will be at St. Augustine Cemetery in Hecker.

As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to: St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church; or Gibault Catholic High School.
