Life is a marathon for early rising local group

At 5 a.m., the sun hasn’t crept up yet and most people are either just getting up for the day or still sleeping.

For one group of women, it’s time to run.

“Some of us get together several times at 5 a.m. to do a loop through Main Street in Columbia,” Stephanie DuVall said. “We also try to do a run on Saturday mornings.”

The group is smaller during the weekday, with about four women getting up early to train. But on Saturdays, there could be as many as nine that are a part of the unofficial group. Those runs don’t take place at 5 a.m.

For DuVall and Carla Becherer, this group has helped them train for marathons and triathlons.
