The Waterloo Fire Department was called out about 11 p.m. Monday for a kitchen fire reported at 724 Ward Avenue.

The homeowner apparently put the fire out prior to fire department arrival, but there was still heavy smoke inside the house. All occupants safely evacuated and the situation was brought under control within a short amount of time.
