John E. Schrock | Obituary

John E. Schrock, 66, of Waterloo, died Jan. 23, 2024, in Waterloo. He was born March 22, 1957, in McLean County.

John is at peace after bravely fighting PSP (a form of Parkinson’s Disease) for many years. He grew up in Gridley, graduating from Gridley High School. After high school, John attended Eureka College. After graduating from Eureka College with a degree in accounting, he moved to St. Louis to work for Save-A-Lot for 25 years.

John was a businessman and avid foodie. After working for Save-A-Lot, he owned and operated his own business, Value Source Foods, for 17 years and recently passed the business onto his son, Austin. 

He deeply loved his family. He was also a huge sports fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Rams, attending many games, including the 2004, 2006, 2011 and 2013 World Series games and the Rams Super Bowl win over Tennessee Titans in 2000. Words to describe John are Christian, humble, kind, fun loving, genuine and full of life. He will sincerely be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his former wife Sandy Schrock and their children Craig (Kara) Schrock, Nick (Michelle) Schrock, and Austin Schrock (Jana Steibel); grandchildren Monroe, Jack and Cole; sisters Nancy (Dave) Aupperle, Sally (Dennis) Smith and Joni (Bob) Huber; brother Scott Schrock; brother-in-law Denny Sherrill;  nieces; nephews; and cousins.

John is preceded in death by his parents Eldon W. and Mary Lou (Freed) Schrock and sister Bonnie Sherrill.

A celebration of life will be 3-7 p.m. Feb. 12 at Hopskeller Brewing Company in Waterloo.

Private burial was held at New Hanover Cemetery of Zoar.
