Jerold “Jerry” T. Childers, 84, of Reno, Nev., formerly of Dupo, died Oct. 2, 2023. Jerold was born May 23, 1939,  in Oakton, Ky., and was the beloved son of Tom and Maude Childers, who preceded him in death. 

Jerold’s journey through life was marked by a strong sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He graduated from Dupo High School in 1957, and subsequently served his country for four years in the United States Army.

After his military service, Jerold embarked on a career as an X-ray technician and nuclear medicine specialist. His career took him to various places in St. Louis and then to California, including Camarillo, Nev., and South Lake Tahoe, where he dedicated his expertise to helping others.

Upon retiring, Jerold settled in Reno, Nev., where he lived out the remainder of his days working in his gardens and enjoying the casinos. In this picturesque setting, he found peace and contentment, surrounded by the beauty of the Nevada landscape that he grew to love.

Jerold “Jerry” T. Childers will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his caring nature as a healthcare professional, and his unwavering love for his family. He touched the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jerold is survived by his nieces and nephews Carol (Dan) Kupferer of Falcon, Colo., Darrell (Susan) Childers of Garden Ridge, Texas, Doug (Betsy) Childers of New Braunfels, Texas, Marti Ross of Dupo and Laura (Kevin) Hettenhausen of Highland and many great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many cousins in his native Kentucky. The love and memories they shared with him will continue to warm their hearts as they celebrate the life of this remarkable man.

He was also preceded in death by his brother Ray Childers and sister Margie Honey. Sadly, he was also preceded in death by his nephew, Tommy Beck.

Jerold’s final wish was to be reunited with his parents, and his ashes will be buried alongside Tom and Maude Childers, completing a family circle that will endure for generations to come.
