Inclement weather brings event cancellations

Friday UPDATE:

All local schools are closed Friday due to the snowy weather.

Also, organizers of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church fish fry in Renault have canceled Friday’s event due to weather and road conditions.

Waterloo VFW commander Les Niemann called the Republic-Times office Friday morning to say the VFW is closed due to weather conditions. There will be no lunch or dinner meal service.

Both the Waterloo and Columbia senior centers are closed Friday due to weather.

Due to inclement weather and road conditions, Smithton Public Library is closed Friday. The library should reopen for normal business hours on Saturday, Dec. 7.  Fines will not accrue since the library is closed.

The Gibault boys basketball game at Pinckneyville scheduled for Friday night has been postponed.

Waterloo High School’s annual Madrigal Christmas Dinner, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, has been postponed until next weekend.

The History Museum of Monroe County (724 Elaine Drive, Waterloo) will be closed this weekend.

Waterloo sports canceled: Friday – JV/Var boys basketball at Jerseyville, freshmen girls basketball vs Father McGivney, 7th/8th grade boys basketball at SPPS (rescheduled for Dec 12); Saturday – freshmen girls basketball vs Freeburg, freshmen wrestling at Carbondale, varsity boys bowling at Harrisburg, 6th grade girls basketball, 6th grade boys basketball

The Vendors for Cause canceled their Quarter Auction fundraising event scheduled for tonight at the Waterloo VFW. They had asked those attending the event to bring an unwrapped toy for the Waterloo Optimist Toy Drive. Toys can be dropped of at Waterloo City Hall.

 

Thursday posting:

Local schools have announced cancellations regarding Thursday evening’s sports due to snow and sleet.

ICS: A post on the Facebook page noted that the girls basketball games (7th and 8th grade) at St. James, along with the girls basketball games (5th and 6th grade) at St. Clare in O’Falloon have been canceled.

Waterloo: Athletic Director Dan Classen sent out an email Thursday afternoon with the following announcements:

  • JV/ Varsity girls basketball game tonight vs. CM has been canceled.
  • Bowling vs. Roxana at Airport Bowl has been canceled.
  • JV wrestling match at Triad has been canceled.
  • 6th grade basketball game vs. Mascoutah has been canceled.
  • 7th/8th grade girls basketball game vs. Red Bud has been canceled.

Columbia: Girls basketball game against Wesclin will take place. Bowling vs. Freeburg is canceled.

Dupo: High School Girls Basketball game at Marissa has been canceled.

Fundraiser cancelation: Barrie Scott and his campaign committee have canceled the campaign fundraiser scheduled for this evening at 5:30 p.m. in the VFW. They plan to reschedule the fundraiser.
