Hockey playoffs set

The Mississippi Valley Club Hockey Association playoff schedule was decided last week.

In Varsity 2A, Columbia (13-7-4) will begin a best-of-three series against Granite City this week. 

Game one is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at RP Lumber Center in Edwardsville. Game two is 7:30 p.m. Monday in Granite City. Game three (if needed) is 9 p.m. Tuesday at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O’Fallon. 

Last Tuesday, the Eagles tied Belleville, 5-5, securing the No. 4 seed for the Varsity 2A playoffs. Jack Reuss recorded a hat trick and two assists for Columbia.

In Varsity 1A, the Freeburg-Waterloo Raging Bulldogs received a first round playoff bye thanks to placing first in its division during the regular season.

The Raging Bulldogs closed out regular season play last Tuesday against Triad in a battle for the top seed in Varsity 1A. Freeburg-Waterloo posted a 6-3 win, with Cohin Reynolds scoring twice.
