Glenn E.F. Voelker | Obituary

Glenn E. F. Voelker, 79, of Maeystown, died March 7, 2024. He was born Feb. 23, 1945, in Belleville.

Glenn was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Maeystown, and was a long time member of the cemetery board. He was a member of the Maeystown Sportsmans Club and the Maeystown Kloepper Club. He loved farming, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He was a champion dancer and excellent cook. He played ball for many softball teams and basketball leagues back in the day with Nancy always there to support him from the sidelines.

Many a friend can tell you about epic barn ball battles with Glenn. He never stepped away from the field or court. When he retired from playing, he took a spot on the bleachers, in the stands or sometimes even sitting in his truck watching his kids and grandkids do what they loved to do – sometimes being a little too spirited in his support for them.

Glenn also enjoyed butchering and making sausage with his friends. And when he wasn’t cheering on his kids and grandkids, or feeding them, he would be playing cards at Annbriar or Maeystown Sportsmans Club, taking his grandkids fishing, enjoying a jeep ride or just sitting on the deck with his cats.

Glenn was loved by many. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a story to tell.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Nancy M. Voelker (nee Hoffman), children Christopher (Kristine) Voelker, Aaron (Sherri) Voelker and Renee (Jeremy) Steibel; grandchildren Markee Voelker and Ripken Voelker, Keith Voelker, Tristan Steibel and Tate Steibel; sisters-in-law Luann (Dennis) Valentine, Carolyn Shields; brother-in-law John Hoffman (Deb Naumann), nieces and nephews Kevin (Samantha) Hoffman, Brian (Angie) Hoffman, Scott (Carolyn) Valentine, Tim (Tina) Valentine, Katie Hudson and Karen (Justin) Benavidez; great-nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends.

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents Harold J. and Frieda M. (nee Mueller) Voelker; father-in-law and mother-in-law Louis “Peggy” and Mildred Hoffman (nee Altes); brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Bonnie Hoffman; and brother-in-law Jeffrey R. Shields.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. March 11 at Quernheim Funeral Home and 9 a.m. until time of service March 12, 2024 at  St. John United Church of Christ in Maeystown.

A funeral will follow at 10 a.m. at the church with Pastor Patrick Poole officiating.
