Ethelmae E. Buettner | Obituary

Ethelmae E. Buettner, nee Gummersheimer, 82, of New Athens, died Dec. 9, 2014 in Belleville.

She was born April 15, 1932 in Belleville, daughter of the late Adolph and Bertha Gummersheimer, nee Grunewald.

Ethel was a cook with the New Athens School District for 30 years.  She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Women’s Guild and Columbia American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lewis E. Buettner, whom she married on November 15, 1953 in Waterloo, two sons, Mike (Dawn) Buettner of Batesville, Ind.; Mark (Laura) Buettner of Newburgh, Ind., daughter Beth (Robert) Buettner-Nast of New Athens, two grandchildren, Austin Buettner and Sheri Buettner; one brother-in-law, Floyd (Shirley) Buettner of Hudsonville, Mich.; one step sister-in-law – Imogene Schmelz of Waterloo. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son Bryan Buettner.

Visitation will take place 3 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 and 9 to 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens.

A funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens.

Interment will follow at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt.

Memorials may be made to the New Athens Fire Dept. or the New Athens Ambulance Service.
