The Columbia High School football team wasted no time in rebounding from last week’s tough overtime loss at home to rival Waterloo, scoring early and often at Dupo for an easy 47-14 win.

Eagles quarterback Jacob Hill threw four touchdowns in the first half and Dupo’s offense had a tough time putting together sustained drives against a determined Columbia defense.

“I thought we came out pretty sharp tonight, which is what we needed to do after a huge loss last week in overtime,” Columbia head coach Scott Horner said.

Kenny Fields got things started for Columbia, running for a 5-yard touchdown at 8:53 in the first quarter. A missed extra point made it 6-0 Eagles.

Zach Matthews hauled in a 13-yard TD reception in the first quarter, followed by TD runs by bruising Eagles running back Lou Isringhaus.

Jacob Williams scored on a 40-yard TD scamper in the second quarter for Dupo, but Eagles wide receiver Lamont Reed answered with TD catches of 57 and 52 yards from Hill to close out the first half.

“We were able to really execute the way we want to,” Horner said.

Collin Roth scored on a fumble recovery for the Tigers in the third quarter.

With the win, Columbia improves to 2-1 on the season. Dupo drops to 0-3.

The Eagles play at conference foe Wesclin next Friday.
