Eagle Fest is Saturday in Modoc

eagle-featuredEagle Fest takes place this Saturday from 9 a.m. to  3 p.m. at the Jerry F. Costello Lock & Dam in Modoc.

There will be eagle-watching with spotting scopes and the chance to meet some of the feathered inhabitants of the World Bird Sanctuary.

A new presentation to this year’s event, “Physics of Flight,” given by the Natural History Education Co. of the MidSouth, will be at noon.

Enjoy short interpreted walks both upstream and downstream from the dam. Tours will also be available.

Experts will have knowledge of other eagle-nesting sites nearby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lunch from a local eatery will be available for a suggested donation of $5 per person to cover expenses. Otherwise, this event is free. Families and leash-trained dogs are welcome for the hike.

Partnering to present this event are the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Randolph County Economic Development, Lower Kaskaskia Stakeholders, Randolph County, Chester Tourism, North County Savings Bank, Evansville Booster Club, Horse Prairie Mutual/FarMutual, CLIFFTOP, Kaskaskia Valley Audubon Society and Kaskaskia River Port District.
