Driver of fleeing vehicle charged

A young Missouri man was charged in Monroe County Circuit Court following an incident in rural Columbia late Saturday night.

At about 11:15 p.m., a Columbia police officer observed a passenger car without headlights on near the levee on Ramsey Road. During a traffic stop attempt, the car sped away from the officer south on Levee Road at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The office discontinued his pursuit at that time and notified other local law enforcement to be on the lookout.

The vehicle drove around spike strips in the area of B Road and Levee Road, police said, but was ultimately stopped near Herbst Road with assistance from the Valmeyer Police Department.

The driver of the car, 20-year-old Dylan K. Lankford of Arnold, Mo., was charged with felony aggravated fleeing/eluding police (21-plus miles per hour over the speed limit), disobeying a stop sign and driving without lights.
