CPD conducting special Cinco De Mayo safety patrols

Columbia Police Department officers, thanks to grant funding provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation, will join Illinois State Police and other area law enforcement agencies by participating in a special Cinco De Mayo traffic safety enforcement campaign.

Columbia Deputy Police Chief Jerry Paul said his department has identified the entire Admiral Parkway (Route 3) corridor, along with areas near Interstate 255 in Columbia, as locations most likely to experience traffic crashes at night.

Paul said officers will patrol these areas from May 1-5 with clearly marked orange safety belt enforcement signs in hopes of deterring crashes.

Call the CPD at 281-5151 for more information.
