The halfway mark for the high school bowling season is approaching and two area teams are still without a loss.

The Columbia girls (7-0) and Waterloo boys (9-0) teams are on a roll, with both coming off a Monroe County Cup win and a successful week against top opponents.

The Lady Eagles snapped Cahokia’s undefeated season last Tuesday at Red Bird Lanes, 33-7. Last week’s Republic-Times Athlete of the Week, Miranda Rodenhofer, carded a team high 632 series, bowling all three games over 200 (204, 205 and 223).

The team went on to defeat Wesclin (34-6) and Gibault (35-5) in the following days.

The Columbia boys (5-3) also topped Gibault on Thursday, 30.5-9.5 with Cameron Touchette bowling the high series of 646 (211, 212, 223).

The Waterloo boys team defeated Metro East Lutheran last Tuesday night 37-3. The Bulldogs’ Michael McGarry, who shared the athlete of the week honors with Rodenhofer, bowled the match’s high score with a 225. He has had the highest team score in seven out of nine competitions for the Bulldogs so far this season.

The Waterloo boys then went on to defeat Jerseyville (37.5-2.5) and Roxana (36-4) last week. The Bulldog girls (6-3) won those two matches, as well. Waterloo sophomore Gabbie Hoge came away with top scores of 192 against Jerseyville and 215 against Roxana.

Waterloo faced East Alton-Wood River on Tuesday, with everyone else taking a break until after the holidays.
