CHS athletes make all-conference teams

Fall sports teams at Columbia High School enjoyed success in 2014, with the soccer team winning state, volleyball team reaching the supersectional and football team winning the Cahokia Conference yet again.

It comes as no surprise, then, that many Columbia student-athletes were named Cahokia Conference all-conference selections in their respective sports.

The state champion CHS soccer team dominated the all-conference team, with goalie Matt Hutchinson (10-2-2, 11 shutouts), Matthew Roderick (20 goals, nine assists), Adam Becker (eight goals, 12 assists), Ryan Gudeman (12 goals, 14 assists), Cameron Roth (11 goals, eight assists), Sean Rickey (six game-winning goals) and Sam Harres, Patrick McDermott and Noah Baumann all being chosen.

Making all-conference in volleyball were senior setter Megan Huffman (198 points, 43 aces, 225 kills), sophomore outside hitter Colene Hamilton (251 kills, 496 digs) and senior rightside hitter Jordan Rippelmeyer (198 kills, 62 blocks).

Those named all-conference in football from the Eagles were Easton Huffhines (37 tackles, six sacks), Jacob Hill (14 passing TDs, 10 rushing TDs), Lamont Read (480 receiving yards), offensive linemen Andrew Gutknecht and Corey Hornbostel, Lou Isringhaus (22 rushing TDs, four receiving TDs, 1,281 yards rushing), kicker Greg Long, Tyler Wood (23 tackles, fumble recovery), Owen Suedkamp (46 tackles, sack) and Zach Mathews (36 tackles).
