Illinois State Police said a blue 1999 Ford driven by Brenda K. Alberson, 58, of Prairie du Rocher, was westbound on Route 3 and had stopped to attempt a left turn when it was struck from behind by a red Ford ZTS driven by Abby L. Buettner, 27, of Waterloo.

Alberson was transported to Red Bud Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening. Buettner was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe County EMS and the Red Bud Fire Department assisted ISP with the crash.
