The Waterloo High School boys basketball team is this week’s Republic-Times Team of the Week.

The Bulldogs took first place at the 49th Annual Sparta Midwinter Classic this weekend. Defeating Red Bud, DuQuoin and Murphysboro on their way to the finals against Steeleville on Saturday. They topped the Warriors, 58-51, to take their first tournament of the season. Waterloo came close in the Freeburg/Columbia Holiday Tournament, taking third place.

Waterloo advances its record to 13-6 and took home the only midwinter tournament title trophy of all the area teams over the weekend. The Bulldogs are currently ranked second in the Republic-Times Local Rankings behind Gibault (17-4).

In the running for the Mississippi Valley Conference title, the ‘Dogs are 3-1 in conference play. That puts the team in second place, one game behind the other Bulldogs from Highland.
