A 16-year-old female from Waterloo who was involved in a single-car crash about 3:15 p.m. Monday on Konarcik Road at Kopp Road was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

The Waterloo Fire Department, assisted by Monroe County EMS and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department personnel, responded to the scene.

A car driven by Waterloo High School student Megan Gibbs struck a utility pole and rolled multiple times, ejecting her from the vehicle, according to police. Gibbs’ parents arrived at the scene shortly after the crash.

She was transported from the crash scene by ambulance to the EMS base in Waterloo, from where she was airlifted by Survival Flight to the hospital. She remained in ICU as of mid-week.

Monroe County Electric Cooperative linemen worked late that afternoon to restore power to about 30 nearby homes.
