Shelby’s Auto Repair, Inc.

Shelby Jr. and Rachel Mathes purchased Liefer’s Garage at 600 S. Market Street in August of 2013. Liefer’s Garage was the longest standing independently owned business in Waterloo before the Liefers sold to the Mathes. Shelby’s looks forward to carrying on the tradition of great customer service and reliable workmanship in auto repair.

The history of Shelby’s goes back a lot farther than the new Waterloo location. The first auto repair business started almost 60 years ago in 1954 by Shelby’s grandparents in East St. Louis which is now known today as Shelby’s Service. This was run by Shelby’s grandfather until 1990 when Shelby’s father bought it from his dad. It was run by Shelby’s dad until this year when Shelby and Rachel purchased it from his parents. They attribute the success of the business by being honest with fair prices.

At their new Waterloo location they started right away up- grading equipment in the shop including a new alignment rack, all new energy efficient lighting in the shop, new garage doors, transmission and coolant flush machines, and a tire machine and balancer. Their future plans include painting the building, re-doing the lot, and remodeling the waiting room.

They couldn’t do it without the great staff that they have. The key to a successful auto repair business starts with talented mechanics. With over 78 years of combined experience, Mike, Nick, and Kurt are experts in the auto repair business. Shelby’s is thankful for having three of the best mechanics in Waterloo. When you come in, you will still see a familiar face greeting you at the front desk. They were fortunate to keep Candy Liefer-Bise as their service writer with 33 years of experience on staff with them as well.

Shelby and Rachel reside in Waterloo with their two children, Kaitlyn -12 and Ryan -9. They look forward to earning your business. You can call to set up an appointment for your vehicle at 939-7316.
