Waterloo High School wrestler Pat Bieber is this week’s Republic-Times Athlete of the Week.

The Waterloo junior marks the second WHS wrestler in a row as the Athlete of the Week. Bieber became the first Bulldog wrestler to ever qualify for state in the program’s history Saturday.

Bieber took second in the 182 pound weight class at the IHSA Matoon Sectionals over the weekend. He is currently ranked No. 9 in the state according to Illinois Matmen. Bieber is also on the quest to set another school record at the three-day tournament this week. His teammate Denis Wilson set a new Waterloo record for most wins in one season at 34 last weekend at sectionals. Bieber has a current record of 33-7 and hopes to surpass that mark at state.
