Waterloo High School wrestler Denis Wilson is this week’s Republic-Times Athlete of the Week.

Wilson placed third in the 220 pound weight class at last weekend’s Carbondale Regional. This win improved his record to 32-8, tying him for a Waterloo program record.

His victory ties him for the most wins in one season with former Bulldog wrestler Jeff Stafford.

As one of the top three individuals in the regional meet, Wilson advanced to the sectional meet this Saturday with fellow Waterloo qualifier Pat Bieber in Matoon.

Wilson and Bieber are competing this weekend to become the first Waterloo wrestlers to advance to state.
