Open house March 13 for new KRPD office

The Kaskaskia Regional Port District recently moved to its new office at 336 N. Main Street, Red Bud. Last year the port purchased the old Wittenauer grocery store which was most recently an antique mall on North Main and remodeled it to serve not only as the port’s new office, but also created two rental spaces for professional offices.

“This building is a great move for the port district – it gives us more space, it is handicap accessible, has good parking, great visibility and allows for future growth,” said George Obernagel, KRPD Chairman.

The KRPD worked with Quadrant Design of Waterloo from concept to design to bidding to construction oversight. Improvements include all new utilities, compliance with the state energy code, a seismic upgrade, and it is fully compliant with the Illinois Accessibility Code. New features include outside entrances to all tenant spaces and a common conference room and rest rooms accessible by all tenants.

Fruth Contracting was the general contractor that was able to complete the project in 120 days.

To celebrate the new space the port district is having an open house Thursday, March 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by.
