Monroe County Baseball Tournament to be held Saturday

The annual Monroe County baseball tournament at GCS Ballpark in Sauget will be held this Saturday.

As of Monday, three of the four teams participating are ranked among the top 10 small schools in the Metro East, according to STLToday.com. Waterloo (10-3) tops the area schools at second in the rankings. Columbia (13-3) is No. 3, while Gibault (11-4) is ranked ninth.

“It’s pretty exciting to have some of the area’s top teams in the tournament,” Gibault baseball coach Andy Skaer told the Republic-Times Tuesday.

Play begins at 10 a.m., with Columbia and Gibault facing off, followed by Waterloo vs. Valmeyer at noon. (The schedule has been changed several times, this is the final and updated schedule for Saturday.)

Saturday is also WHS Prom. Therefore, Waterloo will play the next game at 2 p.m. If the Bulldogs beat Valmeyer, the 2 p.m. game will feature the tournament championship and the third place game will follow.

If the Pirates beat Waterloo, the 2 p.m. game will be the third place game followed by the championship.
