Missing Valmeyer man found deceased

Jason Stumpf

Updated 4/16/14: A rural Valmeyer man reported missing last week by family members was found deceased early Tuesday morning in St. Louis.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said it received verification Tuesday afternoon from the St. Louis City Medical Examiner’s office that the man found deceased inside a vehicle earlier that morning in the 1500 block of South 8th Street in Soulard was positively identified as 38-year-old Jason Stumpf of rural Valmeyer.

“He had apparently been there for days,” Monroe County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Dennis Schreder said. >>>

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy and perform toxicology tests to determine an official cause of death, Schreder said.

There were no signs of foul play, St. Louis media reported city police as saying.

A missing persons report was filed with the sheriff’s department on Friday after relatives said Stumpf, who was diabetic, had not been seen locally since the morning of April 8.

Stumpf was last seen driving a silver Ford pickup truck around 9 a.m. that morning, Monroe County Sheriff Dan Kelley said.

Kelley said Monday his department had received some calls with “several possibilities” as to Stumpf’s whereabouts, but were unable to locate him until Tuesday.

Stumpf is survived by wife Meghan, sister Nicole, parents Gary and Leona, a son, and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
