Gibault’s Sam Range was the Republic-Times Athlete of the Week last year at this time for his performance at the 2012 Sectional, advancing him to State.

It was an exciting weekend for three area golfers participating in this year’s IHSA Sectional play.

Saturday Columbia senior Michael Barker carded a 76 to advance as an individual to the 2013 IHSA State tournament. Barker participated in the Class 2A Salem sectional over the weekend and will play in Normal Friday and Saturday at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University.

The Eagles will be well represented at the state tournament, as Allie Leingang notched an 86 during Monday’s Class A Effingham Sectional. The senior will tee off Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.

Also on Monday, Gibault’s Sam Range shot a 78 in the Class 1A Robinson Sectional. The junior will also play this weekend, but at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.
