Gibault’s baseball Hawks (16-6) stunned the Columbia Eagles (17-4) on Friday, avenging a 2-0 loss in the county tourney last weekend by plating eight runs in the bottom of the first inning at GCS Ballpark in Sauget.

Gibault scored two more runs in their half of the fourth inning, pushing the score to 10-0 and shortening the game to five innings. Hawks junior left-hander Zack Neff dominated the game with a one-hit pitching performance.

But the Friday night upsets didn’t end there. Valmeyer’s Hunter Brewer pitched a 6-2 stunner over Red Bud at home Friday.

With the game tied 1-1 after the first inning, the Pirates (6-14) put up five runs in the fourth inning to upset the Musketeers (10-9). Red Bud would answer back with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but it wouldn’t be enough.
