Columbia man charged with sex crimes

Arek Boren

A 20-year-old Columbia man was arrested Saturday on felony sex charges involving a female victim.

Arek M. Boren was picked up by police at his home in the 300 block of North Briegel Street and taken into custody on three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

“The Columbia Police Department received a complaint that Boren had been having sex with a minor,” Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards told the Republic-Times. “We investigated this complaint and developed enough probable cause to make the arrest.”

Edwards said the alleged crimes occurred at different locations, including one incident at Boren’s place of residence. Court information states the alleged incidents occurred between March and April of this year and involved a female who was at least 13 but under 17 years of age.

Boren remains in custody at the Monroe County Jail awaiting arraignment.
