Thursday night, Gibault will play for the regional title as the lone local volleyball team left in postseason action. The Hawks will take on Nashville in Carlyle at 6 p.m. If GCHS advances, sectional play begins Nov. 5, with the championship game scheduled for Nov. 7, in Carterville.

It was a rough night for Monroe County high school volleyball teams on Tuesday night, with Waterloo, Columbia and Valmeyer all suffering season-ending losses in their regional semifinal contests. The evening’s lone victor, Gibault, defeated Red Bud in three games.

After defeating Freeburg in three close games Monday, the ‘Dogs fell to Althoff Tuesday in two games at Columbia.

Host team Columbia had a first round bye, and struggled against Mascoutah Tuesday, losing in two games.

Valmeyer, also playing their first regional contest Tuesday, fell to host team Steeleville in three games.
