WPD warns against reverse parking

Local residents have reported receiving orange stickers on their vehicles notifying them of parking violations in downtown Waterloo of late.

The Waterloo Police Department addressed this topic via a Facebook post on Monday explaining the city’s ordinance regarding prohibited parking practices.

“To clear up any confusion for backing into angled parking spots, please see Section 15 on the attached city ordinance,” the WPD stated in a Facebook post with a photo of the full ordinance attached. “The orange stickers that have been placed on vehicles are warnings only.”

Per Section 15 of Waterloo city code 24-6-3 under No Parking Places, the ordinance states:

“Parking shall be within the painted parking slots, parallel with them and front wheels to curb. Rear-wheel parking will be permitted for the purpose of loading and unloading only.”

For anyone with questions about this ordinance, call Waterloo City Hall at 618-939-8600.
