Sophie Beitweiser

The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Waterloo Piranhas swimmer Sophie Breitwiser.

The 11-year-old won every individual event during this summer swim season. Sophie, the daughter of Chuck and Celeste Breitwiser, swam three individual events at each of the six regular season swim meets and was 18-0 before entering the Kaskaskia League Swim Finals, where she went 3-0 in her individual events.

Sophie was awarded the high point trophy for girls ages 11-12 at the conference finals held July 21 in Columbia with a perfect score of 48 points, as well as Most Valuable Swimmer—Junior Girl at the Piranhas end-of-season awards banquet.
