Pigeons cause Valmeyer power outage

Ameren restored power late Tuesday afternoon to more than 800 residents in and near Valmeyer following a power outage apparently caused by pigeons.

An Ameren spokesman said two pigeons believed to be making a nest at the Valmeyer substation apparently got too close to an insulator and were zapped, causing a power outage late Tuesday morning.

Electricity was restored to residents by about 5:30 p.m.
