No Burn Order issued for Monroe County

Due to the excessive amount of field fires around Monroe County in the past week alone, the Monroe County EMA office issued a “No Burn Order” for all of Monroe County, effective as of 4 p.m Friday until March 28, when it will be reevaluated by county officials. See complete details of the No Burn Order below:

No Burn Order Issued

The Monroe County Emergency Management office has issued a No Burn Order for all of Monroe County effective March 21, at 4 p.m. This No Burn Order will remain in effect through at least next Friday, March 28. At that point officials will re-evaluate the situation and may extend this order if needed.

“The vegetation is dry and the winds are strong causing the fires to spread very quickly,” said Monroe County EMA Director Ryan Weber.

The Waterloo Fire Department alone has responded to 13 field fires since Saturday March 15, including five today, March 21.

This burn order will include all outdoor burning. The only exception will be covered charcoal and gas grills used for cooking.
