Lightning strike near Monroe County home

The Waterloo Fire Department responded about 8 p.m. Sunday to a residence in the 2400 block of Hanover Road after a homeowner heard a lightning strike and saw sparks outside the house.

Ameren told a fire official that the lightning struck a nearby transformer, causing a surge to the house. This tripped a couple of breakers and damaged a couple of outside lights on the home.
