The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Waterloo High School cross country runner Joe Schwartz. A junior, Schwartz ran to a 16th place finish at Saturday’s IHSA Class 2A State Cross Country Meet in Peoria to earn all-state recognition. His time of 15:14 ranks him third overall in WHS history. Prior to state, Schwartz placed second overall at the Highland Regional and fourth at the Decatur Sectional.
