Jean Brown | Obituary

Jean Brown, 97, of Waterloo, died March 26, 2024, at Oak Hill Care Center, Waterloo. She was born July 23, 1926, in Cairo. She was the daughter of the late Raymond, and Alberta (nee DeJarnett) Stout. She was married to the late Robert W. Brown. He had passed away July 4, 2021. They were married on June 19, 1948, at Red Bud.

Jean was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia.

Jean worked as an account manager at Carondelet Savings and Loan in St. Louis until she retired in 1987. After retirement, she and her husband Bob enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Jean was a devoted mother and grandmother and an excellent cook. Family and friends looked forward to her beef roast, mashed potatoes and homemade rolls. She was an excellent role model to her children and grandchildren always putting others before herself. She and Bob were married for 73 years each having found the love of their life. Her grace and kindness will be missed.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the care and compassion provided by the staff at Magnolia Terrace and Oak Hill in Waterloo.

Surviving are her sons Craig (Susan) Brown of Waterloo and Stuart (Mary) Brown of Littleton, Colo.; grandchildren Scott (Jennifer) Brown of Smithton, Sara (Jacob) Wright of Smithton, Ryan Brown (Kristen Meisenheimer) of Bennington, Neb., Matthew (Megan) Brown of Valmeyer, and Alicia (Kyle) Moore of Littleton, Colo.; great-grandchildren Maggie Brown, Macie Brown, Ella Wright, Luke Wright, Nora Wright, Lucas Brown, Matteo Brown, Emmy Brown, Miles Brown, Riley Moore, Emma Moore, Micah Moore and Zoey Moore; along with other relatives and friends.

Dear to Jean’s heart were her nephew, Joe Berry, and niece, Nancy Vogt.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Stout.

Visitation is 10-11:30 a.m. April 3 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated following visitation at the church with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. 

Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis. 

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to the Monroe County Nursing Home Endowment Fund.
