Waterloo tightend/linebacker Clayton Bourgeois

Columbia High School running back Charles Farris and Waterloo tight end/linebacker Clayton Bourgeious are this week’s Republic-Times Athletes of the Week.

The two area football players have been named to the All-State Class 4A football team the Illinois High School Association announced late Friday afternoon.

Clayton Bourgeois, a tight end/linebacker at Waterloo High School, and Charles Farris, a running back at Columbia High School, were among 18 players named to the team selected by the Illinois Football Coaches Association.

Bourgeois caught 15 passes for 242 yards and had two touchdowns. On defense, the WHS senior led the Bulldogs with 122 tackles, including 87 solo tackles. He also had 15 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, while recording three quarterback sacks. He also had four fumble recoveries.

Columbia running back Charles Farris

Farris was one of the productive top running backs in the area this season. He finished his senior season with 1,522 yards rushing with only 150 carries. He also scored 23 touchdowns. Farris rushed for over 100 yards in nine out of 10 Columbia games this season. In spot defensive duty, Farris had five tackles.
