Step back in time for La Guiannee — a centuries-old French New Year’s Eve tradition brought to life in Prairie du Rocher

From 7-9 p.m., visit Fort de Chartres State Historic Site for an evening of period music and singing as the La Guiannee singers perform traditional songs dating back to 1722.

La Guiannee began in France as a door-to-door singing tradition to wish neighbors good fortune for the new year, and it was brought to Prairie du Rocher by French settlers in the early 1700s. Today, costumed singers keep this historic celebration alive, sharing music and community spirit throughout the fort and town.
