Fish Fry Friday

This Wednesday, Feb. 18, St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer, 201 S. Meyer Drive, will have an Ash Wednesday fish fry from 4-7 p.m. The church will serve carry out orders only. Get an adult fish plate with two sides plus dessert for $14 or fish by the pound for $18. The Valmeyer Lions Club will hold a carry-out fish fry at the Corn Crib, 107 MAR Court, this Friday, Feb. 20, from 4-7 p.m. Buy fish by the sandwich, plate or pound along with sides including fries, onion rings, baked beans and potato salad.

Waterloo VFW Post 6504, 406 Veterans Drive, will serve fish every Friday during Lent from 3-7 p.m. Fish selections include cod, catfish, walleye and shrimp plates, fish sandwiches and chicken strip plates and sides. Bulk fish and shrimp orders may also be placed. You can carry out, but I recommend the fast and convenient cafeteria-style service. The Friday fish buffet Annbriar Smokehouse Restaurant, 1524 Birdie Lane, Waterloo, continues this Friday and every Friday through April 3. The buffet runs from 4-8 p.m. and features cod, pollock, jack salmon, catfish, a variety of sides and more. The regular menu is not available during the fish buffets. Cost is $21.95 for adults and $12.95 for children ages 5-10.

Waterloo Sportsman’s Club fish frys will be held at the club, 4903 Sportsman Road, from 4-8 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 20, through April 3. They will have fish by the pound, fish, chicken strips, shrimp, meatless spaghetti and a variety of sides including hush puppies, fries, mozzarella sticks, mac and cheese, onion rings and more. They offer dine-in and carry-out orders.

The Valmeyer Knights of Columbus will have a fish fry on Fridays from March 6 through April 3 at St. Mary Parish Center, 116 W. Woodland Ridge. Dine-in or carry-out service will be available from 4-7:30 p.m., featuring cod and shrimp plates with homemade sides.

GET INVOLVED:  Hopefuls planning to enter the Monroe County Fair Queen or Little Miss Pageant should save the date of Saturday, March 7, to attend an informational meeting at the fine arts building at the fairgrounds, 4177 Route 156, Waterloo. A Monroe County Fair Queen Pageant Bingo Trivia fundraiser on Saturday, March 14, at the fine arts building. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with the games beginning at 7 p.m. Whether you’re a trivia buff, a bingo lover or just in it for a great night out with friends, this event is for you. Cost is $20 per person.
