Egon Scheuring | Obituary

Egon Scheuring, 90, of Columbia, died March 12, 2024, at de Greeff Hospice House, St. Louis. He was born May 31, 1933, in Wiesental, Germany.

As a young man, Egon came to the United States from Germany. He began his working career as a barber in East St. Louis, and later a restaurant owner in Columbia – first as Reabans, then later as Egon’s (1967-1989). He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, charter member of Columbia Sister Cities and longtime member of the Columbia Rotary. Egon had served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War and was stationed in Germany. 

Surviving are his wife of 51 years Lee (nee Weber) Scheuring; son Martin (Rachael) Scheuring; daughters Cindy Ulrich and Elizabeth (Don) Bantz; grandchildren, Abby (Ethan) Fields, Zachary Ulrich, Max Ulrich and Lindsay Hallman, along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Elizabeth (nee Beuhler) Scheuring, brother Benhard Scheuring and sister Gerda Baumann. 

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. March 15 at Leesman Funeral Home in Columbia. 

Private interment will take place in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Columbia. 

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to deGreeff Hospice House, 10024 Kennerley Road, St. Louis.
