Brief police pursuit in Columbia

The Columbia Police Department engaged a driver suspected of stealing nearly $200 worth of razors from the Waterloo Walmart in a pursuit that occurred about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday as the suspect attempted to elude officers.

The driver, a black male with dreadlocks, approached triple-digit speeds in his getaway car as he drove west on I-255 toward Missouri.

As CPD officers called off the pursuit, they noted he had crossed the JB Bridge and entered St. Louis.

“Our car pursued only briefly after trying to stop near Wedgewood on Admiral Parkway,” Columbia Police Chief Jerry Paul said.

The suspect increased to speeds over 100 mph just past North Main Street, Paul told the Republic-Times.
