Memorial Day programs

There are a number of programs planned in observance of Memorial Day this Monday, May 31.

Waterloo American Legion Post 747 and Waterloo VFW Post 6504 will use the Monroe County Courthouse grounds from 11 a.m. to noon for its annual Memorial Day program. This year’s observance will be COVID abbreviated with a shortened program, but the public is welcome to attend.

Columbia American Legion Post 581 will host a drive-in Memorial Day program starting at 11 a.m. on its parking lot. Vehicles can tune in to 106.9 FM to listen to the ceremony. The program will conclude with the traditional placing of the wreath at the Doughboy Monument. The bar will be open for socially distant beverages and restroom facilities.

The Village of Valmeyer will commemorate Memorial Day at 10 a.m. at American Legion Post 901, 618 S. Meyer Avenue. They will have a program with a speaker, a laying of the wreath ceremony and a gun salute performed by the Post 901 Honor Guard.

American Legion Prairie Du Pont Post 485 and Chief Pontiac VFW Post 1699 invite the public to its annual Memorial Day service beginning at 11 a.m. at Post 485, 200 S. 5th Street, Dupo.

Millstadt VFW Post 7980 and Millstadt American Legion Post 502 are hosting a Memorial Day service at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery starting at 9:45 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs.

In Prairie du Rocher, the Memorial Day event will start at 10 a.m. with a parade to St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, with a ceremony there at 11 a.m. Boy Scouts will host a barbecue at the American Legion from noon to 2 p.m. Music by Chris Murry will be at the Legion from noon to 4 p.m., with the post’s Memorial Day ceremony at 3 p.m.
