Emergency personnel responded about 1 a.m. Saturday to a head-on crash with injury on Route 3 at Old State Route 3 near Red Bud.

The vehicles involved were a Ford pickup truck and a semi truck without a trailer.

Survival Flight medical helicopter airlifted the driver of the pickup, 41-year-old Corey Koester of Evansville, to Barnes-Jewish Hospital  in St. Louis for treatment of serious injuries.

The semi truck was driven by Daryl Hall of Elkville. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatenting.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Red Bud Fire Department assisted Illinois State Police and EMS personnel at the scene.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist the Koester family with medical expenses as Koester, the father of three, undergoes a long road to recovery. To donate, click here.
