Two women were charged with multiple counts of felony forgery after police say they used counterfeit $10 and $20 bills to make purchases at various businesses in Columbia and Waterloo over the weekend.

Delissia Johnson, 30, of Cahokia, and Samantha White, 31, of Centreville, were arrested after allegedly passing three $10 bills at the Waterloo Schnucks location Saturday night. Johnson was also arrested on a fugitive from justice warrant out of Missouri stemming from a previous larceny charge involving stolen credit cards.

Shortly before 11 p.m., Columbia police responded to Pizza Hut on South Main Street for a report of counterfeit money being spent there. Officers got in contact with Waterloo police and were able to determine that Johnson and White were the same women wanted in their case.

“It was a good cooperative effort between our local law enforcement agencies,” Columbia Police Chief Jerry Paul said.

Court information states that in addition to the Waterloo Schnucks and Columbia Pizza Hut, counterfeit bills were also used at Walgreens and Subway in Columbia.

Johnson and White remain in custody at the Monroe County Jail, with bond set at $20,000 for Johnson and $10,000 for White.

Paul said that his department is still trying to determine if counterfeit bills were passed at other local businesses. Anyone who believes they have fallen victim to this crime is asked to contact their local police department.
