Royce J. Cheney | Obituary

Royce John Cheney, 91, of Waterloo, died July 31, 2014 in Red Bud.

He was born Feb. 6, 1923 in Valmeyer, son of the late Thomas S. and Ida C. Cheney, nee Schmitt.

Mr. Cheney was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and a past member of the Waterloo Optimist Club. He was co-owner of the Bee Hive Bowl from 1960-1969. He worked for Mill Supply Machinery Company in St. Louis and Midwest Tool Company in Maryland Heights for more than 45 years as a purchasing agent. Royce enjoyed his granchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved gardening, was an avid reader and enjoyed sports of all types, particulary Cardinal baseball.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen M. Cheney, nee Josten; children David of St. Louis and Michael (Deborah) of St. Louis; brother Dale of Lexington, Ky.; along with five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife’s parents and sister-in-law.

A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo.

Following interment at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery, there will be a luncheon served at St. Paul UCC for family and friends.
