Thefts at Columbia auto dealerships under investigation

The Columbia Police Department is investigating two separate thefts reported this week at auto dealerships in town.

The Royal Gate Dodge Chrysler Jeep dealership off Route 3 on Thursday  reported that a truck on the lot had its tires stolen and was also damaged. The CPD requested an Illinois State Police crime scene unit to assist in investigating that report.

Earlier this week, police said the Bob Brockland Buick-GMC dealership off Old State Route 3 reported that a vehicle was stolen from its lot. The stolen vehicle is an ivory-colored 2007 Chrysler 300 with no visible registration. The CPD requested the help of the Metro East Auto Task Force to assist in that investigation.

The two incidents are not thought to be related at this point, police said.
