Naming the Enemy | Planet Ryan

In January, I used my column space to express my feelings about the cowardly terrorist attack on the Charlie Hebdo office in France that claimed the lives of 12 innocent people who were simply doing their jobs.

France went on high alert after that brutal attack and the world was put on notice by radical Islamists who don’t take kindly upon free-speech loving infidels.

Ten months later, Paris was once again brought to its knees by the same people – the savages who make up the ranks of the Islamic State group (ISIS) – who subscribe to the most violent tenants of their “religion of peace” and are hell bent on establishing a worldwide caliphate.

Since I cover these world events in my day job, I had to soak in every single update and gruesome detail of the recent Paris attacks as they unfolded. Even though I feel like I’m somewhat immune to feelings as I write about such events, for the first time, I legitimately felt sick to my stomach as the terrorists rampaged through the city on a killing spree unlike anything France has seen since World War II.

Admittedly, I was enraged Saturday night as I watched the Democratic primary debate on CBS, where the candidates on the stage managed to do everything in their power to avoid using the term “radical Islamic terrorists,” even after being pressed by host Joe Scarborough.

An alarming number of politicians, pundits and regular people on the left refuse to name the enemy. That includes President Barack Obama. It’s infuriating and it only affords more power to the radical Islamic terrorists who thrive on fear and intimidation.

Republican Presidential candidate Marco Rubio said it best when he said that ignoring ISIS’s background would “be like saying we weren’t at war with Nazis, because we were afraid to offend some Germans who may have been members of the Nazi party but weren’t violent themselves. I don’t understand it. We are at war with radical Islam.”

How much would you like to bet that a vast majority of French citizens, no matter their party affiliation, are now more than willing to name the gravest threat the Western world has ever faced?

On Monday morning, ISIS released a chilling video that specifically targeted the city of Washington, D.C., as one of its next targets. As the world is well aware, ISIS carries through with every single one of its threats and it’s only a matter of time before the worst case scenario happens on American soil.

God forbid, if and when that attack takes place, I’m willing to wager that more than one Democratic politician on The Hill change their tune about the deadly, Christianity-hating enemy we now face.

It’s extremely sad that it must come to that before they’ll finally face reality.

Ask yourself this: If ISIS could vote for a U.S. president, who do you think they would vote for? Make no mistake – it definitely wouldn’t be a Republican.
