Waterloo man arrested for setting fire near St. Louis

A Waterloo man is accused of setting fire to a playground in Shrewsbury, Mo.

William C. Holmes, 23, of Waterloo, is charged with two counts of knowingly burning after police say he set a fire that destroyed playground equipment at about midnight Monday at Brinkop Park in Shrewsbury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

A fire official told the paper that a neighbor spotted the fire and called 911. The equipment was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the park.

Holmes was released from St. Louis County Jail after posting $10,000 bond.

Holmes was believed to be attending seminary school in St. Louis to become a Catholic priest.
