Walter A. Rau, 84, of Columbia, died Sept. 30, 2024, in Belleville. He was born Nov. 30, 1939, in East St. Louis.

He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Church; Waterloo Knights of Columbus, Waterloo American Legion, Midwest Bird and Animal Association and CRP Club.

He is survived by his wife Coletta Rau (nee Rick); children Robert (Genie) Rau, Dale (Hau) Rau, and Donald Rau; grandchildren Nickolas and Sarah, Jasmine and Joshua Rau; step-granddaughter Stephanie Bernal; and cousins.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents Henry J. and Lydia (nee Stockel) Rau and brother Elmer Rau.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Oct. 3 and 8-9:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Linus Umoren C.M. officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Waterloo.

As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions to Ss. Peter & Paul Church – Waterloo.
