The Valmeyer Junior High School baseball team capped off a remarkable season Friday, defeating Altamont Lutheran in the championship game of the SIJHSAA Class S state tournament played in Coulterville.

The Junior Pirates won 7-1 behind strong pitching from starter Cole Juelfs.

Valmeyer defeated Bluford in the semifinals on Wednesday.

A large crowd of Pirate faithful made the trip over to Coulterville to root on their team Friday.

Five Valmeyer fire trucks led the two school buses with players and coaches through town in a victory parade Friday night, which was followed by a public open house inside St. Mary Parish Center to welcome home the title winning team.

VJHS also advanced to the SIJHSAA state tourney last year, coming up just short of the title.
