A Waterloo man died at a hospital from injuries sustained in a crash involving two motorcycles Monday night near Valmeyer.

Emergency personnel responded shortly before 7 p.m. Monday to the area of 2418 State Route 156 near D Road toward Valmeyer.

Reports from the scene indicate one of the motorcyclists went down into a ravine as a result of the collision and suffered severe leg injuries. A Survival Flight medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene for transport to a St. Louis hospital.

Illinois State Police identified the deceased as Robert Hyatt, 58, of Waterloo. The other motorcyclist, Craig Crosson, 49, of Waterloo, was transported by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County. Both of the motorcycles involved in the crash were Harley-Davidsons.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Waterloo Fire Department and Valmeyer Fire Department assisted Monroe County EMS and ISP at the scene.

That portion of roadway remained closed until 1 a.m. Tuesday as ISP investigated the crash. The crash report has not yet been completed.
